On the bottle
Not really, but this hand thrown (possibly convict made) stoneware ginger beer bottle is pretty nice! This was found in a cesspit (yes toilet) on a major dig in Hobart and dates to pre-1850. How do I know? I'm glad you asked...
A big part of our job is cataloguing items we find. This means we photograph and research old things like this bottle.
We are particularly experienced in historical artefact cataloguing. Personally, I have a real interest in clay pipes and Chinese hand-painted porcelain ceramics which usually pre-date 1840.
When we find artefacts it helps us to understand sites and provides those amazing connections to the people who lived there.
